Each day, the river Jordan deposits six million tons of
water into the
Dead Sea. Because the Dead Sea (actually, a lake) is some 1,300 feet
below sea level, and is the lowest point on the surface of the earth,
there is no outlet for all of this water.
Makes you think the Dead Sea would soon overflow, doesn't it? Actually,
because the air is super dry and hot, approximately six million tons of
water evaporates from the Dead Sea each day, leaving the depth exactly
the same.
The Dead Sea is over 25 percent salt, and is the saltiest body of water
on Earth.
