How long can bacteria live?

A long time. For example, bacteria that lived over 600 million years
ago have been extracted from salt layers. A more recent live bacteria
discovery in northwest England from the mud at the bottom of a lake,
taken in a core one meter long at a depth of approximately 180 feet.
Carbon dating found them to be 1,500 years old.
