Books of the New Testament
Four hundred years after the close of the Old Testament, the New Testament
completes the cosmic story of God's plan to bring salvation upon the
earth. The word testament is best translated as "covenant." The
New Testament embodies the new covenant of which Jesus was mediator. This
new covenant was sealed with the atoning death of Jesus Christ.
The New Testament opens with five narrative books - four Gospels and the Acts
of the Apostles. The Gospels cover the ministry, death, and resurrection
of Jesus. The Book of Acts continues the story of the development of the
early church over the next thirty years.
